Ivan’s Childhood

After the entire family of 12-year-old Ivan (Nikolay Burliaev) is killed by Germans, the boy decides to get revenge and becomes a Russian spy. Being such a young boy he is able to go places that other spies would never be able to reach. The story teeters on the edge between a true war horror story and a fantasy told partially in flashback. Young Ivan often day dreams of his mother who is no longer alive and her appearances make us question whether or not she is really there. A poetically directed antiwar film that also shows the beauty of the landscape.
